Storyboard

The main concept that we decided on for our music video was rejection. This decision was solely based on the lyrics and the music performed by Erick Baker in the song ‘When Will I Be Loved’. He sings from a male perspective about how he has been unlucky in love and how he is longing for love.

The start of the video is going to be the lead (Ally) in a bedroom strumming his guitar reflecting on his situation and how he has been broken up with the girl. This will be shot with various shot angles such as extreme close ups/mid-shots and close ups of ally’s hands. After this we will try to make it look as if Ally is going along with his daily routine but without the girl. We will see him walking out of his door which is again taken from various angles (low/ mid) and then leading down a quite long road to emphasize his loneliness.

Then we will move on to Ally walking towards the bus stop to show him trying to move on. This will be shot in the autumn to capture the bare trees and the autumn leaves on the floor. This reflects well to the way we want to portray the way that Ally is feeling. This will be shot from a high angle and also over the shoulder. This could represent Ally trying to turn his back on the relationship and trying to forget what has happened.

The next shot we have planned to do is one of the most important shots in the whole video because this really solidifies our theme of rejection. In this scene we will have a close up of Ally’s phone and him calling Shannon (Lead Girl). This will then be followed up with a simultaneous shot of Shannon, and a close up of her phone, which shows Ally calling, and she then rejects the call and throws her phone down. This shows Shannon rejecting Ally and their previous relationship. This will also be timed with the lyrics when Baker sings “for your phone calls” – this builds up a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals.

The scene we have planned to do is a clock scene. We have decided to put this in to show that time has gone past and how Ally is still suffering. This is further shown because throughout the whole song, Baker is singing about the relationship and how it isn’t getting easier to be alone.

For the next scene, we have planned to use the lecture theatre with flashbacks of Ally and Shannon together. This has a massive contrast to what Baker is singing, because he is singing about being alone and about breaking up with a girl. This also shows the audience the happy times that Ally is reflecting on, this helps them understand what he is feeling and will help them empathise with him.

This shot will also include a lot of lip-syncing to try and hit the higher grades, because this will eventually need a lot of editing. The final shot we have planned to shoot is of the character on a dark stage performing the song to an empty hall. This will show again Ally being lonely. Also the performance will be characteristic of the type of genre the music was from, because a lot of these videos include performances along with some sort of concept.
