This is a shot of the bus stop that we chose. We originally had another bus stop that we wanted to use as a location, however, this particular one had more space around it which allowed us to film freely without any restrictions regarding space and angles to shoot from. The extra space around the shelter allowed us to shoot from low and high angles. In addition to this the quite road shown in the picture allowed us to film a tracking shot of Ally walking towards the bus stop, alongside the high angle shot used, plus the over the shoulder shot.
All four of us made the decision that Ally's front door/driveway was the best place to film out of all of the houses we had available through members of the group. One of the reasons for this is that it had an open driveway, which led straight out into the road/path that we wanted Ally to walk along to keep the continuity in the video. Also the house had space on the side of it, so it gave us numerous angles to shoot from. The open driveway also allowed us to shoot from a low angle to show our versatility and camera skills.
This location is used for the rejection scene in which Shannon plays the character that rejects Ally. We opted for this location, as it looked very homely and comfortable. This is how we wanted Shannon to look. We wanted the audience to know that she was in a ordinary situation, so that they could relate to her situation. We wanted the phone call to seem genuine so we put Shannon in an everyday situation. This is shown with the mise en scene of the sofa and her casual clothes. Also there was a lot of space to the right hand side of the sofa, which allowed us to shoot over the shoulder and extreme close ups of the phone ringing and Shannon rejecting the phone call.
This location was used for the flashback scenes of Ally and Shannon when they were together. This location (Cutteslowe Park) in Oxfordshire, is very picturesque and is full of greenery and has a very rural and romantic feel to it. Shannon and Ally were filmed here to show how they were once in a relationship and were happy together. However, we showed a contrast to this by filming Ally back in the same place, but we flipped the angle and filmed him from the other side. Furthermore, we edited the clip to make it black and white to emphasise the mise en scene of Ally being unhappy and left alone reflecting on past memories; whereas the shots of Ally and Shannon remained in colour.
These locations were again used as flashbacks of Ally and Shannon together and then solo shots of Ally. We used this because we had a lot of room to film and the characters could cover a lot of space whilst walking across the path near the water. Also the scene behind looked very calm and cold, which moulded really well with the audio and lyrics of the song. Also the path allowed us to shoot from a number of different angles. We used a tracking shot, in which we followed Ally from the side when he was walking across the path. Also, we used a high angle shot in which we filmed Ally walking across the path from above and capturing the space around him - linking it in well with the mise en scene of Ally being alone.
This location was used solely because of the autumn leaves that were scattered on the floor at the time. This worked really well with the mise en scene of the whole concept of the video - the seperation of the leaves from the tree was echoed by the seperation of Ally and Shannon. This location was again used for the flashbacks of Ally and Shannon together and solo shots of Ally again.
We needed a location where we could film Ally lip syncing to the song. We agreed on using the lecture theatre which was available to use at school. However, we didn't want the audience to get bored during this time, so we used the space we had creatively and projected flashbacks of Ally and Shannon on the wall in the background and had Ally lip syncing in the foreground.
This location was outside Ally's house. It was convenient to use this path/road because it was a continuation of the road - which helped with the continuity of the video too. Also because it was a long path we were able to film Ally walking away into the distance and cutting the shot to seem as if he was moving further and further away
