Target Audience

I believe the target audience for our song and music video ranges between the ages 16-30. I think for people younger than the age of 18, they would find it difficult to relate to the song, lyrics and the visuals too. This could be a stereo-typical view, however when you reach the age of 16, you are more likely to be in a relationship, which means they are more likely to be involved in a break-up/separation, or just looking for love. Also I have picked a wide age range because everybody has some sort of relationship in these ages, and no matter what a break up always has an effect on the person involved.

The song is about love and how the singer (Erick Baker) has had a bad experience with it. So I believe people who have been in the same position as him will relate to the song more. Also, I believe that the female audience will also take to the song better than most men, because the song is very emotional and the video also has the same vibe to which women could easily relate too. On the other hand, I believe men will also be able to relate to it too, and this will be easier because the lead role in the video is played by a male – so they may find it easier to relate to it because they see it and hear it coming from a male perspective.

Regarding the music, I think we can look at the same sort of age group. Although this music isn’t really in ‘fashion’ unlike other genres such as Dubstep/Hip Hop/ Drum n Bass and other Pop songs, I feel someone will always be able to relate to this song because of the lyrics talking about a break up, a previous love, and missing someone, and it is likely for a lot of people to feel this way at least once in their life.

The video has a gentle pace, which matches and relates well to the pace of the audio. However, this in no way means that our video is boring. We have made it interesting by using various transitions and editing techniques such as cross cutting and jump cuts to keep the audience entertained. This will also allow the audience to listen to the song and the lyrics and will make them relate to the point that Baker is trying to get across. I also believe the video having a simple structure will help the audience understand what is happening in the video too. Also I think the way we have shot and edited the video will bring in the older audience of 30-40 because they will sit down and watch it because the video tells a story. Other artists such as The Script, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Coldplay and Adele have also tried this type of video and succeeded with the idea.
